why does my corsa automatic use top gear to pull away when its cold but if i switch it off leave it a couple of minutes it behaves perfectly, and why does the oil light flicker on low revs, i know it can be wear in the engine but has anyone heard anything about spurious filters causing this?

Don't know about the 2nd part of your question but is there a button with a snowflake symbol next to the gearstick?
If it is switched on then your car will pull away in 3rd gear.
Switch it off and it should be OK.
