After having to do a system restore I can no longer sync. my PC's date & time. Windows error is not helpful, so I downloaded Dimension4.

D4 gives "Error binding socket address! (10048)".

I'm running Norton (with worm protection, so no firewall). Can anyone make sense of the message and/or advise me how to get time sync. working, please?

Do you mean you can't reset the correct time (it's always wrong again next time you switch on), or something else?

No, I can get to "Date and Time Properties" dialog OK, set date & time and/or time zone fine. But, in the "Internet Time" tab, the Update Now (to either of the 2 atomic clock sites listed) always gives an error.

(I know I have a good broadband connection 'cos I've tried it with e.g. Firefox running ok at the same time.)
I've never had this problem before but I checked mine just now and have the same problem. Possible answers are 1). Your firewall is blocking the attempt (which one do you use?) or 2). Try a different time server such as "0.uk.pool.ntp.org"
Whoops, just realised you said no firewall!
Phil. I just tried a couple of different servers and this one worked- "time-b.nist.gov" In my case maybe it's just a case of finding a friendly one cos all I got before was a simple "an error has occured" message. If you type your full error message into google there's a lot of hits but it's all a bit technical for my taste. Might be worth trying the microsoft site if using a different server doesn't do the trick.

Cheers, deso, I've only got a couple of options in Windows: time.windows.com & time.nist.gov; neither of them work.

In Dimension 4 there are loads of sites, many of which I've tried without success - I'm sure it's something blocking that socket, but, like you, I've Googeld it and the message and/or explanations don't help me to resolve it!
There are only 2 preset options, but just click on the box showing the server name and overtype a new one - it doesn't delete the one you overtype, it just adds it to the list. Check google for other servers - there are hundreds - and try them out till you find one that works (hopefully!). Please let me know how it goes.
