Can I transfer the ownership of my house to my children so that in the future I am not forced to sell it if I have to go into a nursing home. If I can- how much is this likely to cost?

Yes cheeky, but be careful. It is known as a Deed Of Gift - not entirely sure of the ins and outs but you could put in a google on Deed Of Gift. I say be careful because when my forner hubbies dad did it for us, the authorities did look on it like dad was disposing of his assets so he could avoid paying potential nursing home fees in the future. Dad died before he needed care, but it would have been a different story if he had gone into care within a few years of making the deed of gift. We could have ended up having to pay it back in order to pay for dad's care ourselves. However, that said, it is not illegal - it can be done but you have to hope that you will keep will for the next few years at least . Good luck
There's no reason why this should cost more than 300 or so. Your solicitor can arrange it for you.
