Why did Gordon Brown drop the 10% tax rate?
this means that anybody who has a normal tax allowance will be worse off if they earn less than 18,500 (including the new 20% rate) and the lower their income the harder they will be hit!

The headline cut of 2% is being paid for from the pockets of the poorest workers!

Typical Labour spin, everyone in the media etc saying how great it was for Brown to cut from 22 to 20%. The droping of the 10% rate is merely a footnote today when like you say the lower earning workers will be hit the hardest. I am starting to think that Labour are hitting the workers for working while being happy to give money out right, left and centre to the people who dont want to work and get everything handed to them on a plate.
Robber Brown does it again
Certainly will Phil, and I agree with you poolger.

But then Cameron is a moron for letting Gordon Brown take the headlines on tax cuts whiilst he is faffing about with teh environment. Will the new Tories ever say anything meaningful?

I despair of politics in this country. If I wanted someone to come up with policies that I expect I'd just cut out the middle man and run myself. I want parties that have an ideological position and then sell it to me through rational substantial debate, not kneejerk headline grabbers.
There's a question further down called 'Gordon Brown - superman or conman?'.
I think this blatant attempt to bamboozle people into thinking he was delivering a cut in income tax answers it really. He had Cameron fooled for a bit anyway.
Hi Bev2007,
I have voted in local and general elections all the eligible years of my life. I am in a despairing position with none of the main party leaders standing up for the British people who are the backbone, or should be, of this country. There do not seem to be the right quality of leadership available to be firm enough with sensible public support to carry out what this country needs and deserves. But then, so many parts of our society have grown up with the idea that they don't have to worry, somebody will come along so they don't have to put themselves out and take more responsibility for themselves. I regularly visit the UKIP website which is relaying to us the truth of what is going on everywhere around us. I know they are a minority party at the moment but a lot of their plans strike a chord with me, a reminder of how things used to be.
It's like this, poor people will vote Labour anyway so he can safely abuse them. He needs to have Middle England on side to win a general election assuming he does get the leadership. Middle England Giveth, middle England taketh away! They trusted Blair in 97 they may be ready to trust Cameron now Brown is hoping a few sweetners will do the trick, hence the rasing of the 40% thershhold by neary 10K by 2009, that does nothing for low earners either.
Who cares?? Like the conservatives are any different from labour. Politicians aren't in the role because of their altruistic tendancies, it's because of their egos. Moaning about tax, budgets, fuel rises, whatever are pointless because unless you go and live on the moon it will never change. Just get on with life!
Interesting analysis here:

You're down if you earn less than 17,000 a year, better off if you earn over

But it's not a fortune either way - 2 a week to the worst affected

Hugh, Ive been looking at the website.

The Euopean policy is credible and I like the education policy. Alot. I dont think the crime policy is strong enough...

But quite a lot of common sense. Cheers!
UKIP is the greatest thing to happen to the Labour party since Michael Foot stood down.

Don't like to disillusion you would be supporters of the UKIP but their leader who lives in the westcountry was criticised last year ,on our local television ,for using Polish immigrant workers to carry out the renovation on his large mansion.
