My partner went to see his elderly grandparents (84 & 87) last night who informed him that they had had a lovely man round from Anglian Windows to quote them for 3 new double glazed doors.. they were happy with what he had said and handing over a deposit of 2k, this was part payment for the 4465 that he quoted them...!!

As soon as I found out I contacted them to find out exactly what they had quoted for and got a like for like quote from a local comany for 1900, fully installed...!!

I cannot belive that these people can actually sleep at night.... is there a law against this...?

I was able to cancel with Anglian, and we managed to stop the cheque that they had handed over..
When I called and spoke to Anglian, they really could not have cared less and did not care and they had charged 2500 more......

The Grandparents were gutted that someone could have tried to do this to them - where is the justification !!!

it is shocking and i have seen similar stuff on watch dog and there appears to be no law against horrendous overcharging. I know it is treating them like children but old of infirm people should be encouraged not to let these people in as they are so open to this scam. However they were brought up in an age where trust was the norm. A sorry state we are in. Well done for sorting it out though as some wouldnt have relies to help out.
My grandson's Mum has just called round to drop his rednose day outfit off, and she had a visit last night from that safestyle lot, the two guys (one a trainee) were there 3 hours and they quoted 1400 for one door, and this buy one get one free seems a total con as the quote in total for 3 windows and the door was over 4000 and they wanted them to take finance out, she rang her dad after three hours and he told her to tell them she would think about it but she and her new BF felt really pressured! So it isn't just the elderley, these two are a young couple with a 4 month old mortgage and no idea how to handle such high pressure sales people.
anglian windows are just expensive, i dont think its a deliberate con though.
My friends are in the process of getting quotes from 3 window companies, Anglian was 40% higher than the others.
Anybody dealing with elderly people should advise them to have a member of their family present,
If you go to your local Police Station, they're community safety department should have stickers for doors and windows stating that 'I do not buy or sell at this door', or stickers for inside the door so that elderly persons think twice about letting anyone in. Ive given them to my Gran previously as I was horrified when she got ripped off by people because she was so trusting. They also have them for the phone too to remind people not to give out card/personal details over the phone, so worth a trip to the station
