what should i wear to the wedding of a work colleague who's also a good mate. the wedding is at 2.30 followed by reception with meal at 5.30ish then evening do with disco etc. There may be an opportunity to change before the evening do. It will all be fairly posh. i don't want to look like i'm going for a job interview or up in court. oh, i'm a bloke by the way in case you lot hadn't worked it out.

Somthing vomit-proof.

thanks for that fantastically informative and enlightening answer.
I'd go for a casual-ish jacket, decent trousers - tie optonal
If it's posh then I would suggest a suit with a (hesitates to say 'gay' shirt) or bright tie. Too casual for the wedding itself and you'll feel like a poor relation. Too dark and you'll look like you missed the funeral in front. Have fun
Unless otherwise specified I think that lounge suits for men are the norm. I certainly wouldn't dream of going to a wedding in anything other than a suit, unless I was asked specifically not to.
the great leveller at weddings is the variety of ages, incomes, and fashion sense of the guests of both sexes. If the wedding is formal, then a suit is mandatory, but co-ordinated casual jacket and trousers are OK. If you don't want to wear a tie, wear a shirt that doesn't reuquire one - an open-necked shirt looks like you haven't bothered, so go for designer casual, or standard with tie. For the evening, an open necked shirt is fine, maybe with some light casual trousers and casual shoes. If all else fails, remember, people will be checking the bride and groom, and unless you are dressed as a Japanese general, you are unlikely to stand out as a fashion disaster. Hope you enjoy yourself.
A kilt. Full 'highland' rigout if you like that kind of thing, otherwise a stout pair of hiking socks, VERY clean and rugged shoes, and a very dark (navy?) shirt. And no, I'm not kidding. Could be your best day out in years, enjoy yourself.
yip.....if you have scots blood then a kilt is the best option
kilt if poss (mmmmm men in kilts) if not you must know other people who are going... ask them?
Depends on how fancy the weading is
