Number plate light not working...

I've got a 1998 Ford Escort and the number plate light is not working. I've bought a completely new unit for the number plate light but it still doesn't work.

I'm unable to get to the bulb within the existing unit as it's impossible to get apart. and ss far as I'm aware i don't think it's the fuse that's faulty as the side light are all working fine.

Can anyone help me please?

it might be the fuse,the sidelights would not be on the same fuse.

if not the fuse then id run a wire from side lights to number plate light
