thank you for your initial guidance on EV 748

would not have reached a 'solution' without it ....

as usual with this puzzle, could not understand what the compiler was talking about!

but, with your 'translation' and help on cryptic clues from ABers have for the first time 'completed' this puzzle and will send it in!

Would like to add my thanks, too. I once managed an EV solo (before knowing abt AB) but have never got very far since and would not have done so now without this guidance. have also only ever managed one Listener puzzle (confidently enough to send it in) and find the leap between mephisto/Azed/Beelzebub to EV/Listener quite tough. Best regards.
Glad to be of help. I've been lucky enough to win on EV about seven times and just hope that other people are equally as fortunate.
Happy solving!
Could someone enlighten me about this crossword please? This is the first time I've heard of it.
Thanks.

hi geo0939

Enigmatic Variations:

the puzzle is weekly and at the back of the Seven magazine of the Sunday Telegraph.

it tends to be a mixture of a xword cryptic puzzle plus a riddle about how to enter your answers in the diagram/grid.

normally I cant even understand the compiler's instructions!

there are a growing number of ABers trying the puzzle .... some too shy to post and ask questions!

its credibility has been enhanced recently ..... crofter (yes the AB legend) has recently taken it up and expressed a determination to win!)
