Is Ecoli a known acquirable infection in hospital?

was recently in hospital and was released and then taken back in for an e coli infection in the bladder and blood....on antibiotics for 2 full weeks ...is it possible that I picked it up in the hospital? and how serious is it?

e coli is incredibly common you could pick it up almost anywhere but uncooked food or undercooked meat are common sources.

Rather depend on which strain it is as to how serious it is.

When I had my son, his navel was red after a few days and they took a swab, I went home after a week and a couple of days later they told me it was E-Coli !! I was horfied so yes you can get it in hospital, he had never been anywhere else
E. Coli is a commesal or part of the normal gut flora, in the gut it does not usually cause any problems in healthy individuals. However if it is ingested or enters a wound it can lead to serious symptoms. It can be acquired almost anywhere including hospitals.
