Never used this particular app, but what you want is a video splitter. Lots to choose from on google, but try this:

http://www.bobyte.com/

I did know of another one that I used to use a while back, but I can't remember its name now :/
The bobyte one is OK, though I personally prefer VirtualDub (it's free too) for avi files, it also works with some mpegs. Mpg2Cut2 (also free) is good for most mpegs.

You could use Windows Movie Maker, but it will take an age.
PS: if you have a super-spec PC and want total overkill, you can get a free cut-down version of AVID (the full product is used by a lot of professional film editors).
The first two programs LeMarchant lists are the ones I was trying to think of.
