Im not sure I should be asking this question because Im going to have to cope with answers I dont want to hear. Im kinda hoping that maybe one answer at least will make me feel better.
I like to watch foxes late at night and I normally go to a woods nearby and put down a little food. (not enough for them to become dependent on and I never encourage them to get used to me in anyway, I put the food down and then stay out of sight. I know it wouldnt be wise to lead them to think that they can trust humans). There's 4 regular ones that I see often 3 males and one female. Anyway, I saw tonight that the female has broken one of her back legs. It was just hanging stiffly. I know there is little chance of anything being able to be done to help her. The RSPCA will only help if the fox can be caught and contained first and thats not really an option. She seems to be managing to get around still but will she be in awful pain? and what are her chances of surviving?

many fox hunters did and still do leave foxes in pain and kill them in way that can not be decribed as humane. no fox hunter would give a kind word to foxes or how to treat a fox that is in pain. i truly agree with ganesh on the issues of the fox hunter veiws, as i am in the process of writing a paper on the inhumane treatment of foxes on hunts
Im so right? You should change your name to I'm so wrong! You cannot make sweeping statements like that on such an emotive issue. Lankeela is right, country & hunting folk don't want to see any animal in distress and will swiftly dispatch any such animal. Remember the big hoo-hah about the Queen doing exactly that with an injured bird? I've done the same with rats that have been poisoned, not pleasant to see them staggering around craving water - so a swift end is much more humane - surely you realise that? Or perhaps this govts hunting with dogs Bill is preferable whereby indescriminate killing by shooting (by anyone who offers their services to do it and not necessarily a good shot) often maiming or injuring foxes is better, or trapping or gassing - which can effect more than just foxes would suit you? Hunting with hounds was controlled, it was the best way to cull the fox population -uusually the aged, sick or injured and hounds made a quick kill - proven by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. You simply don't understand the way people involved with hunting respect the fox and cruelty is far from their minds. I think they are beautiful creatures and I love to watch them in the wild. But I'm also realistic enough to know that they are indescriminate killers and there is a need for vermin to be controlled. However, the new legislation could see the fox population decimated by shooting and foxes instead of being a country living animal will move more & more into towns where they will be at risk from a much more serious predator - man. So, Im so wrong, sorry im so right, you're writing a paper about the imhmane treatment of foxes on hunts? Perhaps I should write a paper on the inhumane treatment of ABers by you! Remember, open your eyes & ears to others and don't be so narrow minded and dismissive about things you know nothing about. By the way I'm not a country person I'm a townie - but I opened my eyes & ears a long time ago!
We have opened our eyes and ears and seen the suffering for ourselves. I know fox-hunters and they themselves say that they aren't the best way to cull the fox population as they don't always catch them. I don't see that they need culling anyway, and I live in the countryside-even some farmers I know hate the Hunt, and would like to see it stopped.
I don't think 'townies' will shoot them and I think that if they do go into towns, they might be safer! It is the pack of hounds that kill indiscriminately, and will kill rabbits(and I read of a pet kitten last year.) if they get in their way. They do not care if they trespass on peoples land, damage gardens, and frighten other animals!
I agree that the new bill is useless because they continue, they are now criminals as well as sadists, but that obviously doesn't bother them either. I don't beleive that they are animal lovers.
If you can't see the cruelty when you're on a Hunt then I think it is you who needs to open your eyes and ears.
I think that the other people on this thread would agree with me.

Anyone with a heart and a basic sense of right and wrong would agree with you Ganesh. My eyes are open and I dont see any difference between fox-hunters and the empty headed thugs who delight in watching organized dog-fights.
Ok, its this simple. ITS NATURE leave them alone. Did anyone ever stop and think that it is us that is getting in thier way? How anyone can think its ok to "control the animal population? They stay outside where they belong. If they are a problem for you, MOVE. Or better yet lets control the human population. When the population gets too large to live without building over the land the animals live on, send some snipers out to wipe us out. That sounds fair huh?
