In my experience, around 8 days!
Yup ~ the Halifax take an age! they tell me 10 days, but it's usually around 8.

I mean if you pay by cheque in a shop? x
It would depend on when they bank it and which bank they use. I think it's normally around 3 days after the cheque is paid in.
Worst case scenario is the same day - if the shop has the same bank as you and is quick banking it. (Maybe not with the Halifax though - they may not process local cheques any differently to ordinary ones.) Otherwise 3 days from being paid in as Kathyan says

So if i pay for something on Tuesday it will come out on Friday? Thanks for your help. x
If you pay for something on Tuesday and the shop bank it the same day (some small shops do) then it will come out on Thursday, not Friday.
I don't take any chances with cheques ~ I won't write one unless I know the money is there.

I have worked in retail management & used to go to the bank several times in one week..you never know when that cheque will be presented!
