Not a charge of 10 for taing a second bag...but a whopping 240. Are they mad?. the tickets were sold with the agreement that 2 bags totalling 32 kgs can be allowed in the hold. From tuesday they will charge 240 for a second bag even if the total weight is less than 32 kgs. They have not told the passsengers...you have to check the info on the web site. Whoever thought of this idea should be sacked immediately. And how did they arrive at the figure 240. why was it not 1536.40.

1536.40? Don't give em ideas Dom!
So you can take one huge bag, if it weighs no more than 32kgs?
The original thinking behind charging for heavy bags was due to the injuries often sustained by baggage handlers, so it seems that this is now irrelevant.
If I were travelling BA, I would be cancelling my flight, or staging a protest!
I do feel sorry for the check-in staff though, who will have to put up with a lot of abuse now!
I am surprised to read this. I have already stopped flying by BA because of strikes, jewellery, poor catering, less pleasant staff than other airlines. They seem to be in no position to alienate the public even more.
Their web site says 30 per bag on domestic flights, 60 shorthaul and 120 on longhaul with a 30% discount on those prices if booked online and bagge now has to weigh less than 23kg!
This is still extortion...another good reason to fly with another airline - ANY OTHER airline!!!!!
Simple answer is don't fly with BA i'm quite sure the execs at the top will rethink their policies when they don't receive their big fat annual bonus.

This is something that is really hacking me off at the moment, not just BA.

I am going to The Gambia for my honeymoon three weeks today; part of my stay will be to visit a school I have been working with to rasie funding to build the school and provide training for the headteacher. Upon writing to Airtours to ask for extra luggage in order to take skipping ropes, exercise books, pencils, toothbrushes, etc. they wrote back and told me no because (note point c):
a) they have their own charities (which I do understand and respect);
b) of new baggage handling laws and;
c) if I go 1kg over my baggage limit it will incur a fuel stop.

So, me. By myself. Singular. One person can be held entirely responsible for a fuel stop? I know that it was probably just worded badly but I am not asking for extra luggage because I can't decide whether to take my Manolo's or my Jimmy Choo's now.

I specifically asked for up to a sports holdall size / around 15kg.

And incidentally, it is a five hour 50 min flight, which doesn't count as long haul so my allowance for 2 weeks is only 20kg anyway!
The next step will be to ask how heavy you are when you book a flight!
I have flown on various airlines, and BA come out as the most condescending, 'holier than thou' staff. They seem to think they are above all others. Well I hope that their new baggage rules lose them more customers. Whereever you want to fly - avoid BA - even if they are a 'tad' more expensive - you will get better service.
just wear all your clothes at once in layers, take them off once on board and put them in a carrier bag under the seat, then put them all back on again to get off

aog...thanks for the offer of some money...but your money is tainted...so thanks but no thanks....you can get yourself a gin and tonic....shame it wont be in the pavilions of the club in the punjab....but in fabulous Luton.
Cheers
Fab idea joko, if I thought I could get away with it I would ;-)
While I sympathise with exceptional cases like Natalie's, I really can't get myself wound up by this.

In almost every case, if you're taking two bags, you've packed too much stuff.

njok...if you pack 2 suitcases because your ticket said you can then it should be allright. what BA are proposing is to decrease it to one suitcase but keep the weight limit the same....oh just forget it.no point in telling you about it. those who want to know about it probably do by now.
