What are the benefits of having a water birth, and what are the complications of having a Caesarian BY CHOICE. I have discussed it with my doctor.. but he wants me to "push" but doe to my irrational fear of pain - it's very hard for me to over come this!

They say that water births are less painfull!

I can afford private treatment!

Thanks

Right..i have never tried a waterbirth so i cant give my opinion..but i have had three caesarians...The recovery time is a lot lot longer..you cannot drive for six weeks (i did after 4..couldnt wait any longer). You basically have 7 layers through to your womb which need to heal.. its uncomfortable to move around and i dont know anyone who hasnt been left with a slight overhang of skin over your scar. You have to stay in hospital longer but if your partner is as useless as mine was this can be a relief..
The benefits are that you can wee unpainfully and you feel no pain during the birth..its quite a bizarre feeling and the epidural isnt pleasant..hanging over a pillow off a hospital bed whilst having a tube inserted in your spine! There are pros and cons but believe me..if id had the option of a water birth i would have had one.. at the end of the day..its meant to hurt a bit and if it was that bad then woman wouldnt keep having babies...
i didnt have a waterbirth as there werent enough staff but i managed to labour to 7cms in a bath with no pain relief.
Im like you and have a phobia of needles and pain. Strangely though, my fear of needles meant i couldnt bring myself to have pain releif but my body took over and went into autopilot and got me through.
I have to say the water did help a lot with the pain and if i have any more children (Its not put me off) then i will ask for a water birth.
A c-section is far from pain free, i have 2 friends who have recently had c-sects and one has a nasty infection and cant lift anything 6 weeks on, the other is 5 weeks since the section and she is struggling with a skin problem caused by the antibiotics and painkillers that she was given after the birth.
Have you thought about an epidural?
I think an epidural would probably be better, IMO.

At the end of the day, a natural birth IS painful, however it isn't painful for the same length of time as after a CS ~ which of course is major surgery.

I tried labouring in water but it irritated me ~ a shame considering I had read it helps..but at least I tried!

My sister was also terrified of pain. When she had her first baby she demanded an epidural straight away. When she went into labour for the second baby there was no time for an epidural, so she had to cope without. She was most surprised how easy it was..the fear was far worse than the actual event ~ even going so far to ask ''was that IT??'' ;o)
i was like pippa sister, maybe i was lucky, but although it hurt, it was nowhere near as bad as i'd been worrying about. It does hurt, but its a productive pain, you instinctively know that it cant kill you and so your body gets on with things.
I have had a c section and I am hoping to have one with my next {Im 5 Months}, I actually didnt find the epidural painfull, but then Ive had fluid taken from my spine and that didnt hurt me either so maybe im just good with pain. Anyway, I was fine after my C section it took me about a month to recover but I was well aware of how I would feel so was able to deal with it better, I think you should do a lot of reading up on all your options before you decide becuase you dont have to decide right away anyway.
Good Luck what ver you decide xx
