apart from going to the main stealer, does anyone know of a way obtaining the code for the original peugeot radio it about 8yrs old if that makes a difference,

You could go to an independant radio decoder but they will charge as much as Peugeot would.
There are people who post here free Ford codes you never know.....

I might be able to help if you can supply
the model number and serial number, you will have to remove the radio as the info is on the radio casing.

If you go on eBay, there are poeple offering decode programmes to enable you to unlock your radio. I was very sceptical about these, but bought one anyway. You get a small programme e-mailed to you and when you put your radio details in it (serial number) it magically works out the relevant code. This only cost me 1.00, but saved me about 30 quid.
