Scots Gaelic & Irish

I was just wondering if there are any speakers of Scots Gaelic on this board who have been to Ireland. When we were being force fed Irish at school we were told that Scots Gaelic is similar to Irish and I have to admit I have watched the odd programme featuring Scottish ceilidhs, although I didn't understand what they were saying, the resemblance was uncanny. The question I really want to ask is if any Scots in Ireland stayed near a Gaeltacht area and found any resemblance or tried to speak with native Irish speakers? I don't think I've phrased this question particulary well but hopefully you'll get the gist.

Thanks Gef, I know that but the reason I asked is because I knew from a previous question that there Scots who use this board who speak or at least learned various Scots Gaelic dialects and I thought this would be the best place to ask.
yeh but Gaelic is so much nicer-the scot, the welsh and deffo the irish :p and the similarity between the scots gaelic and the irish gaelic is like the similarity between English and german...So, to people that speak Gaelic will find that irish and scottish are very different, but if you cannot speak the language well, then they will sound almost exactly the same, due to pronunciation.., verb endings, sentence structure, etc...x
