We have an oil fired boiler in the kitchen and when it switches off we get an orrible smell of heating oil in the kitchen and right through the house. Is there any reason why I cannot re-plumb the boiler on the outside of the wall? I intend to construct a well made mini boiler house under the kitchen window.

As long as it is protected by a frost stat and not fluing directly underneath or too close to an opening window or door and in a non-combustable structure then there is no problem at all. But you cannot DIY. It has to be moved by a OFTEC registered plumber/heating engineer.
