I am looking to buy a laptop in the sales, this new year. They are quite expensive in England, so I am looking futher afield. If I was to buy a laptop from Canada, would I need to get anything changed apart from an adapter or a new charger.

Is this a good idea or not, any other options?

Assuming you live in the UK, if you buy a laptop from Canada or any other non EU country you will pay duty on it when it arrives here.

Expect to pay around 25% on top - as the customs duty is added not only to the purchase price, but the carriage as well.

If it goes wrong, you'll have a dreadful time trying to get it repaired under warranty.

What would happen, if I was to get my family in Canada to the laptop, and send it to me? Would I still have to pay the duty and all of that on it?
