Was Saddam killed unjustly? of course he was, he murdered 500.000 people for a bit of a laugh, whats wrong with that it was only a joke, bit like Pol Pot who murdered 1000,000 people he didn't like but it was just a joke, or Hitler who exterminated six million jews because they had big noses.

Hussein should be burned on a bonfire while the audience eat barbecued pork ribs

It's about many things, none of which seem to have permeated your numb skull. For example:-
1. Is execution right in ANY circumstance?
2. Why did we single Saddam out when there are equally evil rulers in the world we could have had a pop at, and would we have bothered had Iraq not been an oil rich country?
3. Is it right that the US sponsored Iraqi Govt actually have any power as they have proved to be 100% corrupt so far?
4. What are we going to do about re-instating power, heat , light, education, hospitals etc etc etc within Iraq? The people there are understandably ticked that under Saddam they had those things now they don't.
5.Is a state sponsored execution any more right than the political killings Saddam undertook?
I could go on ( and on) but surely even you can see that these are issues that people will want to discuss. Everything in life is one long debate. If you think you have all the answers and stop thinking, then that's when you really do slip up.
That's what the F**k this debate is about.
it's also about the dispensing of justice and whether he was indeed guilty. You seem to know a lot about it - but did you see Saddam kill anyone? Or do you just believe what you read in the papers? Because what's in the Daily Mail seldom constitutes evidence; if you've ever served on a jury you'll know you need better than that.

noxlumus, you are entitled to your beliefs and I am equally entitled to believe what the opinion of a moron sounds like.

Perhaps you would like to exhume Idi Amin to give him a christian burial for his charitable works for mankind
Everybody knows Sadam was guilty of genocide and it is hard to jusify his very existance considerinng the number of people who have lost there lives just because this man existed. Unfortunately, that is true of many dictators/leaders/Presidents that the US have gladly done business with. If he was executed for his many crimes then justice has been done, but he takes a lot of info about the US knowledge/involvement in his acts.

This debate is not about whether Sadam deserved it, of course he did, it is about who turned a blind eye while he committed his atrocities. I guess you were doing your Daily Mail crossword at the time.
agree 100% with you kev100.to question if execution is "right"for a man that commited hundreds of thousands of "murders" seems beyond my reasoning.
noxlumos, you get it spot on about the reasons for going there as we all know that oil was the major factor.however, you mention the political killing of saddam being any more right than a state execution.the madman had his day in court and by law was found guilty.thats more than the kurdish villages and the other hundred thousand plus people got.
I am not actually saying that anything I've mentioned are MY personal views, in fact mostly they aren't, but the question was "what the f**k is this debate about?" and I've answered it as kev's intellect seemed to be struggling to grasp it.

I am just a qualified plumber and central heating engineer with a Full Technological Certificate that has somehow managed to teach one day a week for 36 years at the local polytechnic without being considered a thickie.

Perhaps Nox you should consider your viewpoint.
Kev mate, I have a Degree in both History and English and I'm thrilled you're a plumber or whatever, however, if you are so stunningly intelligent why ask such a simplistic question?
Your question was "what the f**ck is this debate about?"
Frankly a child wouldn't query that, as it's obvious to even the meanest intelligence that there are huge questions for society arising out of the death of Saddam and the war in Iraq.
My viewpoint is that it was a stupid question, showing little understanding of everything from the second world war to the current civil wars raging in Iraq, and that you weren't after any sort of intelligent answer but more right wing ranting from certain sections to verify your own opinions.
Also quote
"Noxlumos, you are entitled to your beliefs and I am equally entitled to believe what the opinion of a moron sounds like".
I wasn't voicing my "opinion" ( which for the point of argument however never corresponds to yours anyway), so you'll forgive me if I was lulled into the sense that you are none too bright.
It is my way of thinking that Saddam was hanged due to the punishment in his own country.

If he had been tried in a country that did not support the death penalty he would indeed be in prison for the rest of his days.

I struggle with the idea of capital punishment ~ however I feel I have to support the decision in this case as it the Iraqi punishment. In my opinion he should not have been tried anywhere else.

Is this a cop out on my part?
not at all pippa.its a very commendable way of looking at it.your opinion is as "correct"as mine that capital punishment should be reintroduced in britian is.

You have two degrees noxlumos wow,get one more and you can start a girl band might I suggest you call yourselves the three degrees
Oh the Three Degrees!
Oh I see! You made a joke!
God, I wish I was as funny as you.
You should definately pack in the plumbing and go on the telly. Your nearly as funny as, as, as well there's simply nothing to touch you. I'm surprised your not in the New Years Honours List under their section for Funny Plumbers ontributions to National Mirth..... honestly.
Question Author
Telling us that you have two degrees makes you a lot funnier than I could ever be
Question Author
I'll go further If you have so much as a GCSE in
cookery I promise to stop laughing about all the university degrees you have
Why would you doubt nox's academic qualifications, kev?
lot of anger there, kev?
Hands up if you've noticed that it was Kev (the person getting his knickers in a twist about accademic qualifications being brought up) who er... brought up academic quaifications in the first place?
