I think if a person feels strongly about any matter, then they should not just keep their mouths shut, regardless of which party they are in.
The closures of hospitals and wards and their consolidation into so called "centres of excellence" is just another way of saying that hospitals and their wards are closing to save money.
Here in Southport, we have no childrens A&E and no maternity unit, although a good lady of Southport from years past, Christiana Hartley, used her own money to open a specialist maternity unit. It was moved, then closed. Southport is a holiday town and yet the nearest A&E is miles away, on a very busy route. It is only by some miracle that there have not been any deaths due to traffic congestion and time lapse. The sad thing is that it will probably take a handful of deaths to reverse the descision. Hazel Blears, however, must know that protest or not, the facility will close, so really her position is safe.

You don't understand politics do you matt? A person is elected because someone who is voting agrees with their policies - they agree at least 70% with that persons policies....these people voted in as human beings have their own choices plus those who they represent to consider. If an axe falls on a certain constituency (re NHS or schooling or whatever) then you bet that MP will support a protest....it effects that MP as a person as much as everyone living in the same constituency whether they voted for the MP in question or not. So take a lookee here

You can get MP's that are Tory agreeing with Labour (not often but it happens) you can get Labour heading a protest as they do not agree with a labour mandate. I suggest you take time out to get a better understanding of politics and MP's as personal individual people with their own personal views plus those views they have to adhere to from those electorate that they represent before you post in such a manner again. Failing that, if you make a post like this then please explain your reasons in detail and how you have come to your conclusion that you want to share with us. For the record I am not Labour but some labour MP's have a lot of good things to say and are outvoted. I am a little more Tory but hate some of the MP's so I am middle of the road hoping that there will be a Coalition Government taking the pick of the best from all parties.

Firstly, you need to consider whether people are voting for their local MP or for the party (and leader).
Secondly, you need to think about spoiling votes - I voted conservative in the last election - the only other option was a Lib Dem guy who took a holiday during the campaigning period and doesn't live in the area. I certainly did not agree with 70% of the policies.
That said, whilst I have said on previous occasions that I dislike Labour, I do have a modicum of respect for Hazel Blears (and it is tiny) for doing this - all choices in life are a compromise - she can vote for one thing whilst not agreeing with it - and just because she is a cabinet member, does not mean she can't campaign for her local electorate, even if that is against cabinet policy.
