Why is it you can only obtain 16 fags in a pack when you buy them from a vending machine yet at shops you will get a full pack of 20 for the original price?

Is this jus so they can make money or is it due to some law??

To make money.
It is so they can make a profit.

The profit from newsagents selling them, for example, is so low that they are not worth the trouble.

The problem of course is that nobody will buy their newspaper from one newsagent and then go to another newstand to buy their cigarettes.

IT is a scam the cigarette compnies have had in place for many years, and it is the same with chocolate, there is so little profit on chocolate, it isnt worth the trouble to keep in stock, but what can you do? if little Jimmy cant get his choccy bar on his way to school his mum takes him to another shop.

Bottom line, newspapers are profitable, mums magazines are profitable, but to get them to come to your shop you have to sell non profitable items like cigs and chocolate

I just think it is so unfair that when smokers are in the most need for cigarettes they have to pay even more for them no wonder we are all in debt these days!

I guessed it was down to money but wondered if a long lost law was behind it

genius - think how much better off you'd be if you didn't volunteer to pay all that extra tax.

Pack it in now. It's your choice.
Do you remeber the days when you used to put your money into a fag machine for 16 fags and get 2p change? What was that all about?
they are under no obligation to provide them to you at all in pubs.

why would a pub go to all the effort and expense to buy a machine, fill it and maintain it, have it taking up room etc, if there was nothing in it for them?

Thats where the new years resolution comes in I'm living off my last 40 Duty Free's t take me till NY. Then they will no longer take my money.
to respond to joko -

pubs are under no obligation, but tend to install machines so that people who run out of cigarettes can buy them from the pub machine therefore preventing them leaving. It is also part of an array of things used to get people to stay in a pub. Not to get them in (ie marketing), but to get them to stay.. other things used are pool tables, games, newspapers, magazines, tv's, sport, darts, gambling machines etc.

Hope this clarifies!
