I intend giving up smoking on Boxing Day because I want to get the worst of it over before I go back to work etc. I'm about halfway through Allen Carr's Easyway to give up smoking. Feel quite positive at the moment, and trying to stay that way, but for more encouragement, has anyone out there had any success with this book? Hope so, fingers crossed, because I don't really want to go down the route of NRP. Thanks.

It worked for me, with the additional help of patches.

That was in 1994 - I used to smoke 40 a day, and packing up was thing I ever did.

He certainly doesn't work anymore because he died at the end of November, or beginning of this month!

Sorry about that!

He seems to have had an affect on many people, especially with his "smoke your last cigarette and chuck the packet in the corner of the room" routine!
I think the good thing about alan carr is that he gets behind the psychology of smoking, not just the nicotine addiction.that's why (if )i decide to give up in 2007 I'm definitely going to buy his book!
it worked for me (plus a little willpower) it will be 1 year in january since i had my last ciggie.
Don't want to sound too negative but I read the book and loke you I felt really positive about it.
But when I got to the end I just couldn't do it.
He does say that sometimes you have to read it again, so next year I'm going to try again.

Good luck to you and I hope you manage to quit.
I've heard more stories of people who have quit using his book than people who haven't, perhaps it wasn't the right time for me!
All the best x
well Iread it last year and then at christmas Idid it .unfortunately sevev months on curiousity got yhe better of me and 20 a day from then on .Howevver ,Iwill give it another go this new year The book is useful
I have heard that many people have given up by reading his book.
I gave up 12 weeks ago today.
Have smoked for over 25 years and was doing 30 a day.
I choose not to smoke on a daily basis.
I dont think ahead - I dont class myself as a non smoker!
I CHOOSE daily NOT to smoke
Good luck 2 you!
the book is a must read for those giving up, you want to give up as you it, it takes away the fear of withdrawl symptons, and prove that doing it with wollpower works i gave us as soon as i'd read a few pages and never had any problems....

unfortunatly i started again 6months later.......stupid me
I gave up in August after reading the book...no cravings, patches, gum etc. Didnt change anything else about my life..drinking alcohol or being around smokers. Hubby gave up at same time, so so glad we did!

Good luck x

Congrats to all of you that have managed to give up, and to all those who didn't quite manage it, good luck next time.
I know that Allen Carr died last month, but what a difference he has made to so many lives.

Ciggies do nothing for us whatever, except shorten our lifepan, so why do we do it? It's not like anybody's holding a gun to our head. I've never been able to manage more than a few days before, but I can be very stubborn, so I'm hoping to turn this to my advantage and not let a little white stick beat me, lol. Keep your fingers crossed for me everyone and I'll do the same for you. Thanks for all your answers.
good luck Taz go on you CAN DO IT

Thanks Fruitsalad. I need all the encouragement I can get. This time I'm doing it because I want to and I feel ready. Can't wait to smell nice, have more money and be able to cope with kickboxing better, instead of collapsing in a heap at the end of each session, lol.

Congrats on your success. You must feel so much better.
