My example of this is veggie sausages, veggie burgers, veggie chicken made out of quorn. I dont eat fish but I dont try to eat vegetables that look like a fish.

Dont think all vegetarians go for food that resembles meat. A lot of it is aimed I think at teenagers who decide not to include meat in thier diets, so its a quick solution to a meat free meal for them.

The quorn mince is a good alternative if you want a bol sauce, and as a vegi is probably the only one I would use. And the vegi burgers are good for BBQ's

I mainly cook meals from scratch with pulses.
Because as most youngsters we are bought eating meat, we all get used to the texture and the feeling of meat on our tongues and the senses alike, to stop eating meat and really mean it isnt a flippant idea and takes some getting used too. I think it is all to do with a feeling of familiarity and letting go. The realisation of eating an animal becomes apparent but as I said the familiarity of the senses and textures of taste have become a natural way of culinary life. I am by the way not vegetarian anymore but was for 4 years. It was my choice to eat meat again, being vegi did not suit but I have nothing against anybody choosing that way of life. Hope this helps
I was a veggie then vegan for a while when i was younger. Living with a family of meat eaters it was far easier to get things like veggie sausages and such which were quick to do and would fit in with the rest of the family meal ie if there were having spag bol i'd have it with veggie mince, hotdogs i could have veggie sausage etc...

When i cooked for my ex who's a veggie i'd make proper meals from scratch though, gorgeous veggie lasagnes and such.
It maybe because some people are going through the transition stage from eating meat based products to wanting to try vegetarianism and it may be as said by the other postees, familiarity.
Also, another way of looking at it is;Who said a sausage or a burger has got to be made of meat, just because that's the normally accepted view.
I think all all you herbivores are a bit mad (in the nicest possible way) I do need to eat meat in nearly every meal, my daughter is a herbivore and I have tried this quorn stuff, it just ain't meat is it!!!

Get a good slab of steak in you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
