Unless it's a local tradition, I've not been aware of a "main dinner". Each night different oil fried foods are prepared and eaten. Our favorites are the latkes... Many of our Jewish friends do have a more elaborate meal the last night of the menorah lighting and is often brisket. ''Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu melech ha-olam, asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu l'hadlik neir (shel) chanukah!

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner...Hanukkah: December 16-23, and as you mentioned, like all Jewish Holidays, it begins at sundown on December 16 and ends at sundown on December 22... Shalom! Sha-alu Shalom, Yirusahlayim
