My boyfriend and I are looking for a new flat to rent. He has joint custody of his 4 year old boy.

I have just been told by one letting agent that its their policy not to rent flats to couples with children because of bad expeirences in the past. Surely this is discrimination?? I'm really scared we won't find anywhere else - do you think this will be a common problem?

It's ludicrous - I'm a Landlord and I wouldn't discriminate against you as long as your ref's came back OK - as everyone is different, you'd be welcome. Tackle them on the issue - or vote with your feet and walk away.

Thank you!! I actually did raise the issue with the letting agent and she was just waffling on saying a whole lot of nothing really. I think it's really unfair - if they had a 'bad experience' with a 25 yr old they culdn't ban all of them!!

I told the letting agent it's her loss as they are loosing out on our money and on us as responsible tenants. What I think is frustrating though is that they won't care, they'll rent it to someone without kids and it's us left with less choice!!
Grr, it's really riled me!!
