If you go could back and do something that you did as a kid what would it be? The park, the beach anything! The one thing that kids get to do that that you can't do once you're an adult! What games would you play and what sweets would you get from the corner shop ?

Even as a child I often thought I had the best father in the world. Cuddled up to his chest I would listen to him as he would act out beautiful stories of princesses and dragons and wizards etc., stories he made up especially for me. Quite often in these stories the King had to sing his little princess to sleep, or a prince would have to serenade the princess to win her affections. My father being an actor and baritone / tenor I could close my eyes and clearly see the stories unfold as he acted them out. He had a very gentle tone of voice when he spoke as well as when he sang and yet it could rise to such strength and power that I was always totally captivated.
When I later had my three children, I did my best to give them similar special gentle times. When they were little I used to take my guitar into their rooms at night and sing them to sleep; sometimes we a short had story time beforehand. I used to write little story books for them and illustrate them. That was my way of substituting the wonderful acting with which my father had brought his stories to life for me. Today I sing to and with my grandchildren and sometimes we listen to old recordings of my father and the memories flood back.
I lost my childhood when my dad left when I was 7. We used to go on family holidays, camping or to the south of france, with my two aunties and two uncles, and my dad's (once) best friend had two children the same age as my sister and I, so they used to come too and it was great. Then when he left, all that went away and we had to grow up :(
loukr...It's sh*t isn't it???
hell yes... and you'd think that because all the s**t I was put through as a kid, he might try to make up for it now... but ooh no, he has a new family now, me and sis have been chucked in the gutter to rot :(
Hi loukr,

that is horrible what happened to you, do you have children yourself ? if you do,or if not, when you do,spend as much time with them as you can, I know you don't really need telling this, but time is priceless, you can't buy time, you can make time for the kids though, wish you and your sister happy lives, Ray
Well he had an affair with his secretary then married her and had 2 kids and doesn't call me or my sister unless he wants a babysitter when he only lives up the road, I feel like I no longer have a father which is horrible. okay so I may have over exaggerated on the whole gutter thing... (me and my sister live with my mum! lol), but he shows no support and how I see it is he see's us as baggage... nice.

I completely agree with what you said though ray, I'm only 18 now so don't intend on having kids for afew years yet, but when I do I will know how to treat them and I will devote all my time to them and so will their dad! :D x
loukr, you will then turn out to be a wonderfull mum, in the meantime, treasure your own mum,you will come through this a very strong and wise lady,we only learn from what happens to us. xx
Aw thanks ray :D you're completely right, stuff like this only makes you stronger.. it's just a bummer it had to happen in the first place :D xx
