Hi all,

I am currently on Telewest for my TV, Phone line and broadband, however, I am looking to change to Sky for the TV and Talk Talk for the phone and internet, However, we don't have a BT line. If I cancell the TV and broadband and get BT to take over the Telewest phone line, how long do I have to wait until I can get Talk Talk to take over the BT line? is there a set amount of time? r can I just have the line installed and then get Talk Talk in straight away?

BT will not and cannot take over a Telewest line. The infrastructure is totally seperate.

You will have to have a new BT line installed from scratch or re-activate an old BT line if it's present in your house.

Not sure about any set amount of time before it can then be transferred to Talk Talk - I think the minimum contract on a new BT line is 3 months.

I just posted another part to this question and it's dissappeared! flaming technology!!!!

When I spoke to the lady at BT, she told me that there had been a line in there at some point already, so it would just need to be re-connected, as long as Telewest have left it in a decent enough state.

How would I go about getting the internet for 3 months if I have to wait before I can change to a different company? my Fiancee uses it for work, so we will need to have it, however, if we were to use BT, it would mean me signing up for another 12 month contract, surley?
Going on my experience with BT - I was able to cancel the contract after 3 months.

It was a brand new house with only BT provided initially, as a brand new line. As soon as Telewest cable was available I switched. Therefore, I feel fairly sure that the minimum contract time is 3 months however, their website suggests 12 months.

BT messed up in my case by listing my ex-directory number so perhaps they accepted this as 'breach of contract' by them ??

Best call them to ask.
If a BT existed in the address previously, it will flag up on their system and it will be provided FOC... if they quote FOC, they won't go back on it unless it's a new service in a remote mountain hut or something!!

If it's a brand new line, the contract is 12 months. If the line is just "resurrected", then the minimum contract is 3 months, although you can cancel and you pay a fee which gets lower the longer you've had the line.

(Worked for 4 years in a BT call centre!)
