Are Cr@p! In my opinion. Why are they so happy to take my money off me, then when I have a minor accident (not my fault) they are dragging their heals in giving me my excess money back. They send me letters asking for details which I give them, then they send me a letter saying that I will be payed soon, then I get asked for more details, then another letter promising payment, now a letter claiming that I haven't responded to their previous correspondence and that I need to send in a receipt for the excess that I payed to a company that they organised for me to go to or else they will be closing my file. Not to mention the snooty nosed telephone operator who told me that if I couldn't produce a receipt then I wouldn't be getting my �250 back. P.S. If the telephone operator is reading I'm very sorry for shouting but don't threaten to not pay me. I hate admiral, I HATE THEM!!!! and I'll be cancelling my insurance in the very near future.

I think you need the 'rantbank', and fairly quickly!
Calm down its just a con my dear. I'm affraid all insurance companys do this to some extent. The longer they keep your money in their bank account, the more interest they get.
Admiral are obviously no better and no worse than any other insurance company. The writer George Orwell wrote (in 'coming Up For Air) that 'insurance is a swindle, but at least it's an open swindle and people know they are being swindled'. Building societies, on the other hand (said Orwell) manage to convince people that they're actually doing them a favour. Wise words indeed from the sage.
I was listening to a program about customer service on the radio the other day and an insurance company caled 'Progressive' based in Cleveland (USA) were singled out. They ask that their customers contact them as soon as they have an accident. They then send one of their mobile claims assessors (who are driving around the city at all times) straight to the accident site, who then give you a cup of coffee, check you're ok and sit you in their van with a mobile phone to call whoever you need to, while they assess the damage. Apparently they hand out cheques on the spot in over 90% of cases. It's not fair! Why do we have to put up with such rubbish in this country?!!
Typically ignorant responses concerning insurance. It's only ever when things go wrong that people pipe up about insurance - things are dealt with efficiently and fairly in the vast majority of cases: I was burgled - loss adjuster arrived the same day, TV, video and stereo delivered from their suppliers two days after burglary and a cheque issued for other odds & s*ds the following week. Brilliant service. Incidentally, your excess is known as an "uninsured loss", and therefore Admiral are not required to recover it from the other people's insurance company. It won't be Admiral issuing the cheque, it will be the third party insurance company.
Woke up like a bear with a sore head this morning - typically igonrant was very rude, and I therefore apologise.
If you believe they are treating you shabbily, you could try one of these newspaper columns like Roger Anderson on the Sunday Times, there is also another one on the Observer. If you write to them and they take you up, they can contact the insurance company on your behalf and bear pressure on them to sort things out.

I remember seeing thier advert and thinking "who the **** is Steve Redgrave" - he's a rower apprently. This advert is guilty of commiting the falacy of false authority - just because an individual is an expert in one field (rowing) doesn't mean that expertise carries over into other fields (evaluating the relative merits of several insurance companies. Apart from that the man in Admiral's uniform looks a right twonk.
At least you could vent your frustration to a human being. For god sake don't try the Norwich Union, when and if they answer its India and unfortunately the call centres in India and the UK do not communicate at all, so you might as well speak to the cat. You have my sympathy, customer service is a complete joke.
Well im reading this laughing as im one of those fortunate guys who worked for them and happy enough to get those lovely free shares and yes i was well over the 37 k average which have now trebled in value and well not to gloat but you seem to be missing the point. IF you read your policy terms and conditions then you will note Admiral or any other insurer in fact are not required to give your excess back to you this is called an uninsured loss (hence u need legal cover to claim this back) thats why its called an inunsured loss, the fact the accident wasnt youre fault dont make any difference as if they are your insurer you have to claim your excess back from the third party insurer who caused the accident, you would of been required to send your excess receipt to Admiral who would then in turn send it back to the uninsured loss company (your legal cover) then they would send this to the third party insurer who caused the accident and only when the third party have paid Admiral the cost of repairs and only when and if they have recovered their original outlay then you are entitled to your excess back. be grateful if they have waived your excess tohugh they didnt in your case as if i can give you a pound for every time i hear someone say it wasnt my fault why do i have to pay my excess? then i wont need to work at all (though im off abroad soon with my shares :-) so next time offer to have a lower excess when u take out the quote and pay a highrer premium so i can see my shares rising :-)
