I have an Apple Powerbook, and I know that by design they tend to make your lap fairly warm (like a kitten curled up on it but more useful), but seriously, mine gets so hot Im worried its going to give me burns one day. It gets frightfully hot at the hinge where screen meets keyboard, definately too hot to touch, and the area at the front, around the trackpad feels uncomfortably hot too - I can hear the fan going so Im not sure whats up. Any ideas guys? Many thanks in advance :)

Are you using it on a flat, hard surface so that the air can get to the vents and the fans?

If these are blocked it will overheat.
Check your battery:

Is it one that needs to be recalled? If so, do it immediately.
If I use my laptop on my lap, I have a board with holes drilled in it so as air can circulate to the vents underneath. I find it more comfortable too

Blimey fo3nix! Its only one of the ones that want sending back!! I've ordered a new one, so hopefully that will sort the problem out. Thanks very much!

Ethel and trakcab - sound advice all round - I'd like to get one of those fan mat things, lately I've been sticking a fan behind it to keep it cool, but obviously not ideal!

Many thanks all!
