what can I use on my lawn to kill of brown fungi which has appeared during the
recent wet spell.

Armillatox. - works very well on fungi.

Thanks for that Woodchopper. 2 more points-- does it kill the surrounding grass ? and do I get it from a garden centre ?

No -
Has no affect on grass at the prescribed concentration.

And available at garden centres.
