If you are in the UK, John Lewis sells a good range of yarns, including the Rowan range, which is 100% wool. Rowan do a baby line as well.  They also do a good range of patterns from all the usual suppliers.

Otherwise, check out http://www.knitting-yarn.co.uk/  Dianne stocks patterns and yarns from all the main suppliers and some less well known ones too. She also often stocks bulk packs from factory clearances. I have bought from her many times and the service is excellent.

If you don't want to part with money for patterns yet, and it's for your own use or for charity, then there are plenty of sites which have baby patterns which you can download for free.  Just one example is: http://www.p2designs.com/Links-CharityPatterns.htm

Hope this helps.

knitting.about.com is a fab site for all things to do with knitting. You can even get free patterns on it.
