I moved to Lincolnshire 4 years ago and have noticed a lot of car stickers saying "Proud to be a yellow belly " What is a Yellow belly ? And how does it refer to a Lincolnshire person.

Although I am Scottish, my wife is from LIncolnshire, and when I saw your post I went out into the garden to ask her. Guess what - she doesn't know! The pair of us will be very interested if anyone comes up with the answer. Good luck.
the name lincolnshire yellow belly came from the regiment the royay north lincolnshire milita who used to wear a bright yellow breastplate when they went to war
If you type in Lincolnshire Yellow Belly into Google, and go to the BBC site, there are some interesting facts stated on their site. Equally, there are other sites than you can go on which are also of interest.
Don't wish to insult anyone but I've always thought a Yellow Belly was a coward or perhaps that is an Americanism?
As a denizen of the flatlands, I lived at Coningsby - The Place of the Kings- according to my Danish informant, and I understood that "Yah Belloo" (phonetically spelt!) was the war cry of the Viking warriors on their raids.

i lived in grimsby for fifty years a yelow bellow was some one born on the south of the river humber
I've lived in Lincolnshire since 1980, but I'm from Hertfordshire originally. I think they're a funny old lot up here.
I live in lincoln but am scottish, and I had heard that the yellow belly referred to an olden days medical condition or something.

So theyre you go! Another theory.
