free ads free papers, put flyers through doors, post office, local websites,
Where would you personally look to find the name of a local electrician, builder or other tradesman?

I'd probably look in Yellow Pages or Thomsons so, if I was in those professions, that's where I'd advertise.

As Cheekystar says, flyers through the door is possibly a good way.
Move to Norfolk! I called 2 plumbers Thursday and left messages on answerphone / with wife (?). It was an urgent requirement, have no hot water in a rental flat due to be rented on thursday this week. And have either of them called me back??? Have they eck as like!!!

I could travel from North Yorkshire to have a look but it'd be the cost that'll sting ya!!!
they still havnt even phoned! Ive managed to sort it myself i think now.
Just make sure that when you start getting lots of work in that if you cant do an urgent job you at least phone the customer and tell them. The ones ive phoned are extremely rude not to have done.
Best of luck.
Every time you finish a job leave the client with some flyers and/or business cards. Ask them to pass them on to their friends. There's nothing better than recommendation by word of mouth between friends and neighbours, so some literature as well, with all your details on it will jog their memories when they really need you.

Also, on all your literature, make sure you include your full address and a landline telephone number, as well as your mobile. When I'm looking through adverts for a tradesman, I ignore all those that doesn't include the above information. For all I know they could be travellers, and be 200 miles away if needed to be contacted after a job was done.

At this time of the year, if you service central heating boilers and systems, then concentrate your current advertising on this.

Good luck.
