Championing free speech and differing views by shutting stuff down.

What kind of roaster buys tickets for a show of this type then gets offended?

As to the venue, spineless, pompous and in any event, not all that.

Everyone knows what kind of material he delivers. To cancel him now is wrong.

"The Pleasance is a venue that champions freedom of speech..."

Obviously not!
According to multiple sources on twitter (and therefore still to be taken with a shovelful of salt), Sadowitz exposed his penis on stage - as well as making 'indefensible comments' - possibly about gender issues.
apparently he revealed his penis during the show, bet it was a prop . . .

And?
Sadowisz has been gigging the Edinburgh Fringe for 30 years, it is a bit late for this major venue to only just cooton on to the fact that he is very unPC.

But I suppose it is their venue, so they can cancel him if they want to.

All the publicity will mean that wherever the gig is relocated to, it will be a sell out.

I saw his act about 30 years ago and he was very offensive and very funny. And a good magician.
Also seems to have called Mr Sunak a P..i - and said that the economy was in a mess because it is 'run by blacks and women'

Nice bloke ...
TBH he's I think he's terrible, if you have to get your chap out on stage to get a laugh then you're doing something wrong but cancelling him just adds fuel.
//"While we acknowledge that Jerry Sadowitz has often been controversial, the material presented at his first show is not acceptable and does not align with our values. //

Apart from being told he presents an 'aggressive stand-up performance' (what's dat den?), I've no idea what his act involves so I think we should be told what their values are and how they are offended.
It’s the 21st century.
Only one has to be offended for the masses to be denied.
At least it ended better for him than it did in Canada a few years back.
I'm sure He will take it on the chin

The venue like most of the city is a bit up itself and pretends to be a bit edgy but like so much of life it's all front.

Maybe they thought they were booking the ghost of Paul Daniels.
‘There have been serious allegations of child abuse in Cleveland. To my mind there is only one way to find out whether this is true or not and that’s to . . . CALL IN JIMMY SAVILE! You can’t afford to f*** about! Bring in an expert! Am I right? A friend of mine reckons Jimmy Savile is a paedophile. Rubbish — he’s a child-bender! That’s why he does all the f****** charity work: it’s to gain public sympathy for when his f****** case comes up.’

Sadowitz, waaaay back in 1987. Perhaps he merits listening to.
some more comment from the venue

the Pleasance said: “Due to numerous complaints, we became immediately aware of content that was considered, among other things, extreme in its racism, sexism, homophobia and misogyny. We will not associate with content which attacks people’s dignity, and the language used on stage was, in our view, completely unacceptable.

“A large number of people walked out of Jerry Sadowitz’s show as they felt uncomfortable and unsafe to remain in the venue. We have received an unprecedented number of complaints that could not be ignored and we had a duty to respond. The subsequent abuse directed to our teams is also equally unacceptable.”
I think it's up to the venue what they do and if Sadowitz and his fans don't like it that's tough.

Surely that's an approach they can identify with?

I agree up to a point, tomus, but Mr Sadowitz is hardly an unknown quantity and I suggest was booked to show how edgy and willing to take a risk the venue are and the opposite has been shown.
Just another bunch of cooks who can't stand the heat.

Anyway, the world turns.
They should probably take the stuff about championing free speech etc out of their blurb. He probably went deliberately beyond his usual level when he saw that.
What hypocrisy. He wants the freedom to say/do what ever he likes, but he wants to deny this freedom to the Venue Owners.
What are you talking about Canary?

He's not my cup of tea but he is well known for his 'act'.

I really struggle with people who go to these sort of performances and then bang on about being offended. Just dont go, it very simple.
