Yes I know that this is in the wrong section.

Ellie Simmonds in Strictly Come Dancing.........I don't watch it personally, but many do and I do have an opinion on this.

Ellie Simmonds an achondrolastic dwarf is going to be dressed up and paraded infront of millions of TV viewers which I think is embarrasing to many who will be watching. I find seeing the disabled paraded in front of the public distasteful and difficult to accept. Others will have differing views.

She will certainly attract the "sympathy vote."

Certainly talented, a personable girl, but in my opinion Strictly Come Dancing is not the stage for her.

It could just be that somebody misunderstood 'compile a shortlist of potential entrants' and by the time it was picked up on it was too late.

As I said, it's really an entertainment show and fun. Hardly a competition. I love dancing but can hardly walk, let alone dance. I'd be happier watching it without judges, just for the great music and dancing.
Massive can of worms but does make for a very interesting discussion. I don't watch the programme but can see several sides.

Throwing a comment in just for argument's sake, many posts so far take umbrage at her being labelled disabled. If she's not then why does she partake in the Paralympics? I've googled their definition and it's "a series of international contests for athletes with disabilities that are associated with and held following the summer and winter Olympic Games"
As I said just throwing something into the mix.
They are going to have to make so many allowances for her that it will become unfair on other contestants plus the usual sympathy vote, the competition will become skewed and pointless.
It's her choice to do it so don't see the problem. I don't watch and so won't be tuning in but wish her well.
I looked at that as well, Prudie, and reading slightly further on the whole thing unfolds into categories and sub-categories so that pretty much every condition and disability is catered for.

I'm reminded of nobody losing in school sports.

Disabled:

My take on it. Disability depends upon one's environment and if this is organised for the "normal" person , then there will be disabilities including dwarfism that would be described as a didability. Ellie lives in this environment.

At the ParaOlympics everybody is labelled "disabled" and hence Ellie fits in with all definitions of disability.

On Strictly she will be the only one physically different in her environment and hence.....disabled.

Remember the proverb: In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

My concerns are not for Ellie, but for the viewing public and I feel that the B.B.C has badly misjudged this.
It could just be that somebody misunderstood 'compile a shortlist of potential entrants' and by the time it was picked up on it was too late.
I don't think there is any need for your concern Sqad, the viewing public have the choice of watching or switching off. Same for Ellie she had the choice of participating or not.
How is she going to do any of the ballroom dances where she has to be 'in hold'?

LOL
That was to Douglas!
Just the BBC box ticking again. They are even having same sex dancers again ! I wouldn't call the majority of 'celebs' this year particularly well known. I'll be honest, I will watch the opening show out of curiosity to see who they partner her with, but can't muster up much excitement for the whole show.
As the series has been around a while perhaps it is always on the lookout for a format that will break barriers/cause ripples (depending on opinion). Didn't we have same sex couples last time? What can they do for the next series I wonder, maybe include an assistance animal?
I do wonder who she will be partnered with.........
There have been several celebrity dancers who have appeared on Strictly and have not fitted into people's idea of 'normal'. Jonnie Peacock, JJ Chalmers, Rose Ayling Ellis, Will Bayley, Lauren Steadman, Katie Piper. Several of these were paraolympians and had a great time on Strictly, showing how it should be done. I can't see why anybody would be embarrassed by them any more than Anne Widdicombe or John Sergeant. All of them were there to entertain and if they did well, then good on 'em.

LOL..LOL....fabulous Ken.....just loved it.
Neil Jones isn't very tall, she could partner him I suppose.
She is 4', he's 5'9", Shirl.
Oh, he's taller than I thought then ! I was just trying to pick the shortest male dancer.
