Blimey! Am I struggling! That’s not a question! I just can’t get into this setter’s way of thinking. I have managed about half so far. No chance of me finishing before I’m summoned for the bath.
Is it just me? Or do others find it tough?

I found it quite difficult steven. With some of he clues, even when I found the answer, I couldn't fit them together. Stopped for tonight, try some more tomorrow. Good luck.
Give us a clue
Hi Steven, I don't do the crossword but if you want to put up a couple of clues we could see if we could get you further forward before the bath. ;)))
It was the toughest Jumbo I had tackled for a while. I had a lie- down in a darkened room afterwards.

Well that’s a relief! Here’s one clue, for example.
Group that has lately been rolling off our neighbour’s tongue (8,6)
I have some letters: ?o? v ?…/ ?i?h? s
s
^^^ Seen as 'nouveaux riches' but I can't parse it!
Question Author
Actually I thought of “ nouveaux riches” but, for the life of me I cannot think of any reason, other than it fits .
'Neighbour's tongue' is presumably an indicator that it's a French term but I can't get the rest of it.
Hmmm, would perhaps make more sense if it read 'rolling in it, in...' rather than 'rolling off'.

See what you mean though Steven, if that's an example.
Recently = new (nouveaux)???
rolling = riche (riches), as in 'rolling in it'???
Question Author
Blimey, Buenchico! A brilliant attempt to provide a solution!
Finally managed to finish this (Times Jumbo 1569), but it was the hardest for a long time. Yes, the parsing for 'nouveaux riches' is the reference to 'rolling in it'.
I haven't really looked at any puzzles since March, but from the comments last night, I thought I'd give this one a go this morning. About 80 mins to complete & yes, some tricky parsing.

I'm not sure it's rekindled my interest, but am glad I did it.

If anyone wants the puzzle, it's here -

Open the link, close the "Sign in" box that might appear & you should see a black bar at the bottom of the screen - click the printer symbol on the far right of that bar. You might need to adjust your printer settings - eg, mine says "Fit to printable area".
Question Author
Well, eventually, I finished it! I say “ finished “ but some of my answers are there because they fit and respond to at least some of the clues.
Maybe I was just too tense. SWMBO certainly thought so. And the bath certainly helped me relax.
Thanks to those who commented
Certainly glad to see LiK back in action. I did wonder what had happened to him. And I can’t help but be overawed at his speed in solving the puzzle!!

Hi Steven

I might have told you this before, but if you put the words 'lucian' and poll' into a search engine it will take you to his website where every week he not only provides the solution (after a day or two) but parses every single clue, and has a go about any duffers he feels are there - he particularly hates French in the clues or answers!
Don't want to provide a direct link as my post might well be removed.
Question Author
No, goodgoalie, you hadn’t given me that info before. I’ll look it up sometime during the coming week. Thanks!

You can also leave your own comments about each Jumbo there, as I did this week
Question Author
I just looked up this site. Very good! Thanks
I got all the right answers and, to an extent, the reasoning. I am grateful to you, good goalie. LiK , Mamyalynne, NAC and others usually provide me with reasoning and they certainly helped me develop my crossie skills. Thanks to you all.
