Haven't been able to find anything that resembles a home phone that is able to make free wifi calls - my grandparents struggle with learning how to use technology and refuse any smartphone given to them, plus landlines will be obsolete by 2025 at the latest where I live. Since they are on a broadband contract and have decent wifi, I'm looking for something that has the ease of use of a landline phone and is also able to make free calls like whatsapp and messenger are able to over wifi. Would be great if it has those apps already built in but still has the interface of a home phone.

What do they use broadband / wifi for?
Question Author
Not sure if they even use it themselves, they mainly have it for when guests come around or during the summer months when multiple people stay for the holidays.

That one looks promising, and calls are completely free if you already have broadband right (even international calls)?
it's not free but it does work like a landline.

Oh, so do you have to pay a monthly subscription to use this?
the first picture tells you the charge structure.

Yes, I would like to use the existing broadband to make calls as smartphones do. Not pay additional subscriptions.
When their landline changes to the VOIP system their phone provider will give them either an adapter to connect their existing phone in to the router or a new phone for no charge so you don't need to worry about that.
I'd them be, and wait until it happens. They should have free calls on their landlines now anyway.

Although I can't see the advantage of your parents switching to VOIP until they have to.
Will VOIP mean that when the broadband connection goes down yet again, your ability to make a phone call is out too ? If so, it sounds a hugely retrograde step.
