Not a war torn country and mostly young men so why are we accommodating them? given they could apply for a Visa to come in legally if they wanted to!
They should be sent back immediately yet they aren’t !!

But whatever ANY Government tries, they will be knocked back and browbeaten by, in turn, the Human Rights brigade, any number of organisations set up to help these people and the many, many do-gooders who close their eyes to the damage all these illegals are causing to our country by swamping the NHS and creaming off the many benefits afforded to them !! I fear...

The Mail Plus report states
'The leaked report reveals that of the 2,863 migrants transported by the nine gangs between June 1 and July 12, 1,075 – or 37.5 per cent – were Albanian.'

OK, the Mail has exaggerated this slightly to 40% but, what figures are being disputed?
ZM
They state that 40% ARE Albanian.
The 40% applies to only a brief window.

They could have picked a cold stormy week in January to survey and found there had been a 100% drop in people making the journey. It would be true for that week, but utterly pointless and misleading to say it. As is this story.
//The 40% applies to only a brief window.//

The survey was conducted over a six week period. The figure changed promptly the very next day - but no one knows that because they'd stopped counting then. Get real, Gromit!
Ah, OK, so the headline should have read:
FORTY PER CENT of Channel migrants are CURRENTLY from ALBANIA.

Anyone reading a DM headline (or any newspaper headline for that matter) should know to look into the nitty-gritty of the figures. Otherwise you're just Mr Angry from Tunbridge Wells.
ZM
But they didn’t read past the headline and repeated in the question title.

// so the headline should have read:
FORTY PER CENT of Channel migrants are CURRENTLY from ALBANIA. //

Nope. I should have read:
5.5% are currently from Albania. 1000 out of 18,000.
//Nope. I should have read:
5.5% are currently from Albania. 1000 out of 18,000. //

Why? That wasn't the result of the survey.
No it wasn't, Gromit. It was ''of the 2,863 migrants transported by the nine gangs between June 1 and July 12, 1,075 – or 37.5 per cent – were Albanian.'
Your making up your figures gromit. Or your misreading it still despite us explaining it to you. Fairenough should sat 37% ... but not 5%
ZM
That is not currently, that is during the small window that they did the survey. Before and since the survey, current figure is 5.5% (1072 out of 18,000+), this year.
Gromit, the report relates to a specific period of time. What period of time do your figures relate to and what is your source?
Naomi
My figure relates to the 7 months so far this year, from Jan 1st to today. Any other cherry picked period is pointless.
My source is the Government figure released today.
//18,000 have come via France but they are not predominantly Europeans. For some reason you want them to be. Can you explain why it makes any difference at all ?//

It makes a difference because they are all arriving into the UK from France. It doesn’t matter where they originate from. The idea of the asylum system is to provide safety for those arriving directly from a place where there is a serious threat to their lives or safety. Those arriving directly from France face no such threat. They are free to claim asylum in France (and in fact should have done so before arriving there as very few of them arrive in France directly from a place where they are under threat). They simply don’t like it where they are and the UK is their destination of choice.

As far as Albanians are concerned, however many of them there are, there is absolutely no way that any of them should be eligible for asylum anywhere. Albania is a candidate nation for EU membership. Accession negotiations are ongoing and a draft negotiating framework was presented to the Member States two years ago. There are just a few minor matters to resolve, principally somewhat inconsequential issues such as the judiciary, fight against corruption and organised crime, intelligence services and public administration. I have a sneaky suspicion that many of the Albanians fleeing to the UK no longer like it in their native land as the authorities there may be trying to crack down on their activities so as to speed the country's admission to the EU. It’s just a guess, but if I’m right they sound just the kind of people we need here.
Link, gromit?
