According to new research by the Post Office, in an effort to keep tighter control of their spending people are turning back to cash which seems a good idea to me. Plastic is all too easy to spend. What say you?

burleyshirley - most banks will swap your debit/credit card for one which isn't contactless. I have swapped all mine, except 2, a Tesco credit card and a Metro debit card.
I use bangers and mash mostly anyway, mainly to avoid a 97 page bank statement. Although I do get an occasional bonus when I'm in my local bar with all the cardy types and the card machine goes down!
I didn't know that bhg. It was just sent to me in the post, I wasn't asked whether I wanted contactless or not. I would have said not ! The only thing now about ringing the bank to get it changed is the long, lengthy wait I will have before I get a human voice !! They get us all ways today ...

I have an app called Money Dashboard which syncs with my bank account, takes account of my regular outgoings and shows each month. As I spend money, the dashboard is updated so I know exactly where I am. It even tells me whether spending at a rate which';l leave me in the red at the end of the month.

If I were to rely on getting cash out, I wouldn't have any of this info. Electronic payments not only help you see what you've spent but also create budgets for future spending.
BS - if you do online banking you should be able to send a secure message to your bank asking for a replacement card.
I don't bhg.
I didn't realise what a generous soul TTT is; he goes to his local pub and hopes the card machine breaks down just so that he can use his cash to buy drinks for everybody.

It depends who you bank with. Some offer non-contact cards, so (eg. Barclays) do not.
sp - that's why I said "most" and pointed out that Tesco and Metro do not.
Has anyone else got what I've got, a Barclaycard CASHBACK card?

I put every penny I spend on it, have done so since I got it, clear it every month. They don't profit from me, I profit from them;-))
Surprised to see our local lidl have installed self serve cash machines as well as the card ones for buying goods.
