I have just had a smart meter installed(3 weeks)--Like any new toy I have been checking readings daily. I can't make sense of them. Am I correct in believing that the daily standing charge is added on just after midnight each day? If that is so please explain the following; My electric only reading is showing this morning £0.44 (used today 1.1Kwh)--my tariff for elec. is 28.02/Kwh----1.1x 28.02=31p + standing charge of 42.24 makes 70p ????---My gas only reading is£0.25(used 0.22Kwh)--tariff of 7.34Kwh makes about 2p +daily charge of 27.22 =29p (almost correct)-------Any ideas please

I've had a similar query. Phoned energy supplier and all was explained.
Had one fitted a few days ago as I was getting fed up with sending them readings only for them to send someone to re-read them a week or so later and never any problem with readings. I put the bit to check readings back in the box within a day so can't help with standing charge bit but I know I will have to pay it as does everyone.
Maybe if that was at 9am it only includes 9 /24ths of the days standing charge?

Just going off on a tangent regarding this query------I clicked on the display to show yesterday's usage--4.2 kwh x 28p=£1.18 approx. plus daily charge of 42p=£1.58-----guess what--£1.00 displayed. I am going to lay down in a dark room
I've never connected or looked at the home display unit - it doesn't seem to mind!
