I've got a problem with my Virgin landline, all outgoing calls get immediately routed to Virgin regardless of the number I dial (Thank goodness I've got a mobile with a different Provider).

I tried to wrestle my way through their usual "If . . . then press. . . " challenge when I got the message asking if anyone was on the line - how stupid, of course there bloody is, it's me trying to get a sensible response.

Needless to say I never got through to any intelligent real person.

So I'm about to change my Provider. Bye bye Virgin.

And there was I thinking that the Title was just an obvious truism. (Maybe it still is ?)

canary - for some reason - anybody I know with a landline are getting trouble with them. After months with neighbour phoning hours to BT - the fault was fixed yesterday.

my cousin phone is buzzing as well - she is with Sky - and she said her friend is having trouble with her landline too. So knows what is happening with the landlines.
Canary - that is really bad customer service.
I am surprised that people still have landlines - I know when I moved they don't 'do' land lines as such anymore - you plug your phone into the back of the hub.
Who is your mobile provider? Not O2 by any chance?
Have you got a BT phone line?
o.p. says Virgin barry.

That's why I asked, Bob. I have a Virgin landline and am stuck with them as my house doesn't have a connection to the BT line that every other provider uses. (With the exception of Hull that had its own phone network)
If the OP doesn't have a BT landline to his home it won't be so easy to change provider
