Just renewed mine online, was suspiciously easy and apparently successful.
They say I’ll receive my new one in two weeks then to cut my old one up and send it to the DVLC.
Has anyone renewed theirs online recently and received the new one in two weeks? And did you cut your old one up and send it back??

Yes, received a new one last week following a change of address, roughly 5 days after submitting the application, all very straightforward.
Almost a year since I renewed mine (3-year renewal for over 70); the replacement came within days and, once I'd checked it was OK, I cut up the old one and sent it to DVLC. It seems it's illegal not to so, for the cost of a stamp, wy not?
I applied for mine on-line about a week ago and got a message saying that the application could not processed on-line and that I had to apply in person. It turned out that I had to have a new photo taken. I was dreading long line-ups, but I was in and out in around ten minutes. They didn't ask for my old license.

I was wondering if there was a backlog, seems not then.
Was also wondering how many people actually do cut up and send their old one back, I didn’t know it was illegal not to. It’s not the cost of a stamp I was thinking about, I was imagining some poor soul at DVLC opening all these envelopes with bits of licence in them. I wonder if they recycle them?? ;)
Thanks for your answers.
When I renewed a year or two ago, I didn't return the old one ( and the police haven't turned up yet!)

Gonna dob you in ginge :o)
Oops! But really, what's the point? Cut it up...yes, but send it to them?
yes and no
good bits and bad bits
I had three in one year - the old one, a second which only lasted 4 1/2 mo - which I cdnt get my brayne around

and it was something to do with something

BUT they were pretty good about sending the cards
and no I didnt cut up the cards

BUT I DID once get a parking ticket in the name of someone I bought the house off ( 1997 ) who was in prison
so clearly not him
so there must be a market for these things.
The license Bureau here suggests that you cut them up, but they don't ask you to send them back
//Gonna dob you in ginge :o)//

Add my name in there then, I never returned mine either!

Update....
Whoopee, my new licence has just arrived in the post! Only did the online application of Tuesday, very efficient.
In a separate envelope I’ve also received the forms to apply for a new licence, including an email address if I prefer to do it online :/
//In a separate envelope I’ve also received the forms to apply for a new licence, including an email address if I prefer to do it online//

which seems like a total waste of resources considering you have successfully applied online :-(
Hubby got his back after only 4 days. No problems. However the request to cut up and post back the old card is at our expense.
^ they can't prove it wasn't lost in the post can they?

Exactly ael, left hand and right hand...
I’ve cut my old one up and put it in the return envelope which came with the other DVLC letter, changed the post code, and will stick in the post.
