sorry wrong section, should have gone in news I think
The article you’ve linked to is pure speculation. The BBC is a complex organisation with charters and political ties. These would need to be dismantled, or at least seriously amended, for advertising to be allowed.
The license fee is still only around 45p per day. Excellent value compared to the likes of Sky.
Closing BBC4 and R4e. Childish, they know they're the only beeb things I listen to or watch.
They seem to have dropped the idea of charging people every time they connect to the Internet. Lol, bet that was their favourite.
The article says some services might take advertising.
I reckon 45p is a bit excessive....if you don't watch it.
why not just link a charge proportionately to council tax
People should at least have a telly, dave, don't you think?
If you don't have a set or access via the internet then a declaration would be made (like single occupancy) on your council tax form & liable to checks.

Why dont they just take advertising?
Too simple.
The independent tv channels that rely on advertising really don't want the BBC to be funded by advertising. There is only so much advertising revenue to go round and they would lose out.

The days of only two tv stations to choose from, having to get up out of your chair to change channels are long gone. We are no longer 'forced' to sit through the ad breaks. I am not the only one that records everything I watch on commercial channels and FF through the adverts - and many others channel surf or look at their mobiles during the breaks. Spending money on television advertising is not the value for money it once was - internet advertising is the better option for many companies.

I certainly don't want the Beeb to be governed by the advertisers.
