Whatsapp On My Laptop!

Help! i am going around in circles here, trying to put whatsapp on my laptop and getting nowhere!!
I have done this before in the past without any problems! but now for some unknown reason its not happening!!!

ive used this page without any luck!!
Sneaking suspicious its my phone thats causing the problem!!
cuz my previous phone didnt give me this much hassle!!

when i get to the link devices step, it says point phone at laptop with the whatsapp page open, and click linking devices, when i do it says to unlock to link, when i do this nothing happens!

I thought it had to be linked to a mobile number, so it will only work on phones.

As far as I recall one can bring up the non-mobile version of the website and ask it to mirror your phone using one of those square code things. But I eventually gave up as it was never consistent with it's working, and reporting it produced no response.
