Whilst it’s a huge help , how will ‘they establish ’ who’s poor and who’s not for the extra £650 as well as the £400 per household?
Would that be for those on benefits?

Well said newjudge but of course all political parties are in thrall to the eco nut jobs so your suggestions will never happen. Millions will remain in fuel poverty so we can virtue signal to the world how green we are.
// Households that receive the Winter Fuel Payment - which is homes with at least one person of pension age - will receive an extra £300 in November or December. //
So that's ON TOP of the normal winter fuel payment?
For anyone who wants to read the official factsheet (which might help to deal with any confusion here):

Seen a bit that I'd not heard mentioned in Parliament.

"Claimants must be in receipt of, or have begun an eventually successful claim for, one of these benefits as of 25th May 2022 to be eligible for this additional payment."

The "begun" is not exactly clear. Does that mean the date the claim was signed by the claimant, posted or received?

I would think it would be the date received since that is a definite date but it could have been worded better.

Also, the help from DWP is being given in two stages so I don't know if there will be a later date to be eligible for the second payment or no.
So goverment is gonna give out 15 billion of tax payers money to be given to those who put the prices up . That will teach them .
I'm a bit confused be the pensioners not claiming their benefits.

Would it not be a better system to pay folk what they're entitled to as of right in the first place rather than sit like misers on their hoard?
How can any human being who considers them self.. to be a follower of the teachings of JESUS CHRIST ever ever vote tory.SELFISH GREEDY INTOLERANT ANTI HUMANITARIAN and that is their good points. When they are down keep them down .The TORY MANTRA.Scum of the earth.

Do you mean the Government should pay all pensioners more to avoid their having to claim Pension Credit?
I have just copied this from the metro appears that NI is not getting anything!

The chancellor revealed how he has changed his plan to help Brits get through the cost of living crisis, including offering an energy grant for every household in England, Wales and Scotland.
THECORBYLOON:

"Pensioners are disproportionately impacted by higher energy costs, and many low-income pensioner households do not claim the means tested benefits they are entitled to."
The will be provision for Northern Ireland, Red Helen.

"This support will apply directly for households in England, Scotland, and Wales. It is GB-wide and we will deliver equivalent support to people in Northern Ireland."
Isn't there any way the DWP can contact those who do not claim?
Though it may only be a drop in the ever increasing bucket called the cost of living.
DWP includes information about claiming Pension Credit when pensioners are telt about their new up-rated pensions each year.
Thanks guys as we didn’t get the £150 council tax refund equivalent
Why would ni get council tax refund when we don't pay council tax in the first place
You pay rates so the £150 will come off the rates for those entitled to it.
