How easy is it to get hold of a gun in the US? Do you need a licence? How do you stop someone with mental health issues getting hold of them?

Humans have the capacity to reason and learn, why do so many not use this capacity, in the USA on one hand you have States wanting to ban abortion yet often the same States rejecting any tightening of gun laws, moderate middle America needs to stand up for common sense, but it seems the two main parties are becoming increasingly polarised so sadly I can not see anything changing.Innocent people will continue to be killed.
