I have no internet or landline working. The date and time has yet to be confirmed for this visit, but why would it require a visit?

I doubt very much if you are due a visit from a Sky engineer. Any landline problem is fixed by BT as they own the infrastructure - its beyond the scope of a Sky engineer. BT will bill Sky for the visit but you need to ensure from the engineer that you will not have to ultimately pay for the visit. Ask the engineer before you leave him in.

When they say engineer they may mean BT Openreach.

They may check the exchange first, and if not solved there, then they’d need to check cable to your house, or your internal wiring.
To track back to where the fault is as probably nothing is showing at their end.
