and the evidence that he was the true author of the plays, sonnets etc that have been attributed to a William Shakespeare. Would anyone care to explore this and what leads us to believe it?

Such a polite answer. I hope someone will welcome the discussion.
Shakespeare's last solo play was The Tempest, about 1610, though he collaborated on other works after that. De Vere died in 1604. (Perhaps he came back as a ghost writer?)
One of the 18 is:

"De Vere had 3 daughters, just like King Lear"

Definitive proof, if ever I saw it!
The "evidence" for De Vere emerged years after the time, and doesn't bear up to the evidence supporting William Shakespeare from his lifetime.

It's all a plot by the chinless inbred aristocracy who can't bear the thought that the "plebs" are actually smarter.
The reasons I posted above are a classic case of trying to force a theory to fit; just as with those who try to show Nostradamus predicted this that and the other.
