What on earth is he thinking? He says if he receives a FPN he'll resign. Farewell then his 'vision' for Britain. But if he is not served with a FPN he'll carry on. So how does this ridiculous stunt further Labour prospects?

Maybe there's a method in his madness. Maybe he knows that whatever happens he's on his way out and so will take the opportunity to jump before his pushed. With his fans extolling the qualities of his dubious honesty and integrity, to walk away under the pretence of 'doing the right thing' must be an attractive option. Labour, I fear, is pretty much dead - and has been for a very long time.

Dubious and honest integrity? In comparison to the bastion of decency that is Johnson you mean? I’m just asking because if his traits and qualities are in question, by what yardstick is he being measured against?
I know that all politicians can be more than a tad liberal with the truth, I’m just curious, so do tell?
""If Keir Starmer really is a man of honour, he wouldn't be trying to sway the police over beergate"" Daily Mail.

""Government minister Chris Philp suggested Sir Keir could be “attempting to pressure the police into clearing him” and called the move “deeply inappropriate”.
...allies boasted it could see police not take action for fear of being seen to oust the Opposition chief."" The Sun

Oh dear ... more and more are taking up that very opinion. They just need it pointing out to them. :))
There's more ... ""“When the police were investigating cash for honours, Labour sources made clear that questioning Tony Blair under caution would lead to his resignation . . . a similar tactic might be being deployed to scare the police. Chris Philp, the digital minister, hinted at the unease last night, saying it was “deeply inappropriate that Sir Keir appeared to be attempting to pressure the police into clearing him”.
A Labour source said: “Putting pressure on the police is when the ruling party uses the election campaign to harass the police into investigating its political opponents.”
A policing source conceded, though, that Starmer’s intervention put more pressure on officers because it meant detectives were determining his political fate."" The Times.

Is that the same Chris Philip who tried to tell Sky News that when Dorries and Johnson posted the exact same verbatim tweet that they were just like minded?
Sorry as yet haven't read any of the thread but my initial thoughts were if he is willing to threaten this when there's every chance he will get a FPN then clearly he's not in the least committed to the role anyway.
Prudie, apparently Durham Police do not issue retrospective FPNs which I suspect Starmer knew.He di not say that he would resign if the Police found that he had committed an offence which would have bewen more honest.
PRUDIE, on the other hand, he might be certain he has done nothing to warrant a FPN.
Corby//, he might be certain he has done nothing to warrant a FPN.//
Please read the link above.
I read it earlier and seen, "But the growing mountain of evidence shows to me the Labour leader is bang to rights and I find it hard to believe this was the only occasion he threw caution to the wind and ignored the restrictions he had enforced on us mere mortals."

Based upon a single incident, his imagination has run wild.
Corby, so you believe Starmer has done nothing wrong?
I don't know all the evidence the police have and no doubt if they decide it appropriate, a questionnaire will be issued to each of those attending the event.
Whether he knows he's done nothing wrong (and that is no absolute guarantee that one won't be charged) or if he knows FPNs can't be issued retrospectively or any other get out scenario I still think to risk saying what he said was either foolish or shows he doesn't care whatever the outcome.
danny: "Prudie, apparently Durham Police do not issue retrospective FPNs which I suspect Starmer knew." - don't get this phrase in this context, surely all fines are retrospective.
I think that in this context, any action taken depends upon the severity of the offence and how long ago it happened.

You’re wasting your time. The Hohnson supporters cannot make up theirs minds. If Starmer is issued a FPN and resigns they’ll call it a publicity stunt. If he’s cleared they’ll claim double standards because Johnson got one but decided against honour and duty not to resign, whilst do many of his ministers, entourage and advisers have gone in the last six months.
Yet none of them want to address the elephant in the room of the second round of Downing St FPN’s nor the Gray report.
Have we a projected date yet for either of these events? The Met said that the next round would be imminent after the local elections so I’m perplexed as to what the delay could be?
TTT FPN's are usually issued at the time of the offence. The Durham Po;ice don't issue them for past offences. eg The Cummins offence.

" - err no, what part of the PM is not going to resign over party gate is troubling you? The SG report and/or more FPNs are irrelevant, it's not a resigning issue, neither is beer gate as I have said many times. The only resigning issue here has been constructed by Rodders and inflicted on himself.
