What you had bought you that you've never bothered with or used.
I ask because I often have a walk round the no end of charity shops in my area.
Now depending on what your looking for you can pick up the odd bargain, but most of them seemed crammed full of crystal glass in box sets with, To Nanny on them, figurines that look like they've never seen the light of day until they reached the charity shop, not to mention Bone China mugs also in presentation boxes.
So what do you have hiding in the attic that looks like ending up in the charity shop?

My daughter buys me gadgets that I really can't be bothered with setting up. For example I have a Ring doorbell still unopened and an Alexa which I did set up and use as a cooking timer until I needed the plughole for something else.
Very little as it goes straight to the charity shop!
Although I do have an avocado slicer I was given. Imagine peeling and destoning the avocado and then going to the cupboard for the slicer when a knife would do.
I have a couple of Edward VIII coronation mugs that came from my parents' house that I'm hanging on to. They had an Edward VIII stamp on their wedding lines, my Dad always wondered if their marriage was valid!
I also have a couple of Charles and Diana mugs which are still going strong, unlike the event.

I recall seeing a gadget to make halving cherry tomatoes easier, really useful,
Fancy handmade soap, hate the stuff, it leaves soap scum and goes sloppy, unlike shower gel, face wash and hand wash which is what we use.
thankfully my friends and family only buy me alcohol for a gift so nothing goes unwanted . . .

Its a little sad when you look at some of the stuff that ends up in charity shops ( part of someones life)
A few weeks ago one charity shop had 4 very good framed prints of the Spitfire, the frames themselves looked expensive. Below them on a table was 4 model Spitfire planes, not made of plastic, but metal, very heavy too.

I love bone china mugs which can be quite expensive to buy. Charity shops are great for this kind of thing. As you say, some are still boxed and never used. Also bought a set of crystal whisky glasses that would have cost a bomb new. Enjoy a good rummage!
My mum used to buy me jewellery which I never wore. I don't wear any jewellery apart from when I'm going to a do of some sort. Same with makeup. I very rarely go out.

Ornaments and photo frames too. I don't have anywhere to put them and my book cases are just for books and jigsaws. I prefer photos on my phone than on a wall looking at me!
I wish some of the charity shops would go back to basics. Too many of them seem to be displaying only full tea sets, matching or good quality items when what we really want is a good rummage though all the bric-a-brac.

Do you ever get jumble sales anymore or have they fallen foul of H&S? I used to love going to those, especially for odd clothes that I'd never buy from a shop.
I think charity shops, eBay and carboot sales have caused the decline of jumble sales. My mom was the jumble sale queen - the only new clothes I had was shoes, sock and underwear

The nearest you get to an old type jumble sale are at schools, but I think even they stopped doing so due to the amount of rubbish parents kept sending :)
Out of interest, I've just searched Google for
"jumble sale", "ipswich" "2022".
Several came up in the results, both past events and forthcoming ones, for Ipswich and surrounding towns and villages. Every single one of them seems to say "[i]Scouti] Jumble Sale", indicating that it's largely only Baden Powell's lot that's running them these days.

I'm a terrible hoarder, so not as much finds its way to charity shops as it probably should. However I have had some strange gifts over the years, such as a set of sash window locks when my house didn't have sash windows!

I think jumble sales faded out when charity shops started to grow, also car boot sales.
I told my family and friends not to buy me presents many years ago so I don't have a collection of junk. That is the best present I could have :)
